Hazrat Fathima radhiallahu anha

Royal Family Part Four

The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said that children should be taught love for his family, the Ahle Bayt. This series focuses briefly on their lives.

The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) had 3 sons and 4 daughters, all from his first wife Khadijah (Radhiallahu anha) except a son Ibrahim. CORRECTION: Umme Kulsum (radhiallahu anha) passed away at the age of 28.

She was the fourth and youngest daughter of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and the head of the ladies of Paradise. She was born in the 1st year of Prophethood when the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was 41. It is said that the name Fathima (meaning safe from the fire) was revealed by Allah Ta’ala.
She was married to the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)’s cousin Ali (Radhiallahu anhu) in 2 AH when she was about 15 and Ali (Radhiallahu anhu) was 21 and she began to live with him 7½ months later. Of all the daughters, she was the most loved by the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam): when he left on the journey she was the last to part with him and when he returned she was the first to meet him. She passed away in 10 AH, 6 months after the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)’s demise at the age of about 23.
The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)’s progeny continued through her children. She had 3 sons (Hasan, Husain, Muhassan) and 3 daughters (Ruqayyah, Umme Kulsum, Zainab).
