Fighting Poverty

In these times of a tremendous rise in the cost of living, here are some ways to beat poverty:

1. Read Suratul Waaqiah every night:
Ibn Masood radhiallahu anhu relates that he heard the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam say: The one who reads Suratul Waaqiah every night, poverty will not befall him. (Abu Ya’ala, Baihaqi).

The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam also said: Suratul Waaqiah is the Surah of wealth. Therefore, read it (yourself) and teach it to your children. (Ibn Mardawayh, Suyuti)

This is the 56th Surah of the Qur’aan. It can be read at any time between Maghrib and bedtime.

2. Read

لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ اِلاَّ بِاللّهِ

Laa haula wa laa quwwata illaa billah

The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said that we should read the above abundantly, as this is from the treasures of Paradise. Mah-hul radhiallahu anhu narrates that whoever reads this, Allah will remove 70 calamities from him, the lightest of which is poverty.

3. Stay away from adultery (extra-marital sex)
The Hadith mentions that adultery brings about poverty.
